President
Ian Ang
Some people would just discard the idea of playing (as a means to relax) while others might discard the idea of studying (which is no good!), for me, it’s
just a matter of striking a balance between the two.
My previous tenure as an MRO for the SSA draws me to realize the importance of a strong relationship between the association and its members. Along with
this, I hope to use the experience that I have accumulated over my past 3 years of studies, to enrich others who may be fresh to an Australian environment.
As I’m currently in the 4th and final year of my Chemical Engineering program and so if you might require any assistance, you can definitely catch me around,
WHILE STOCKS LAST!

Vice-President
Celeste Chen
Hi I’m Celeste and it’s my 2nd year in UNSW after surviving the IB programme in ACS (Independent). I’m studying Psychology but no, it does not mean I can
read your minds.
In my free time, I like to read and just hang out with my friends. I keep telling myself that I should learn how to cook but I still haven’t gotten round to
doing it. This year as one of the Vice-Presidents, I hope that I will be able to act as a bridge between the members and the committee and provide a soap box
for all your suggestions (and complaints).

Vice-President
Jonathan Chan
An overseas education is undoubtedly an incredibly important phase of one's life. It has the potential to be an incredibly enriching experience, a time when
many deep friendships are forged and full of lessons that will serve one in good stead for their future. It is my privilege to serve as the UNSW SSA's Vice-
President for 2009/2010, and to be a part of this important phase of my fellow Singaporeans' lives. Whilst our primary focus here is to succeed in our
studies, a work-life balance is also an important part of university life.
This is where I feel the SSA's role lies. Through our events, we strive to foster a strong community spirit among the Singaporean students here, easing the
transition for new students and providing a platform for networks and relationships to grow. We also help the soon-to-graduate students, by working with
various organisations to organise career fairs and the like. In short, the SSA hopes to improve the overseas education experience, and it is my goal to help
do so to the best of my ability. See you around :)

Secretary
Jonathan David Teo
Being one of the few Singaporean students doing Pharmacology & Toxicology, I sincerely wish that I would be able to provide assistance to other Singaporean students, especially to those from the science/medical sciences as finding someone of the same nationality may offer a degree of comfort from being so far from home. As the secretary for 2010, I hope that I would be able to help new students with my experience from living in Sydney. I’m reasonably easy-going and willing to help as much as I can. While I don’t exactly have any clearly defined goals, I would still like to at least be able to make a contribution to SSA by dealing with its administrative matters as well as I guess, just getting to know more people.

Treasurer
Derrick Wong
Derrick Wong is a third year Commerce student. His interests lie in Swimming, Meditation, and Toastmasters.
To him, money management is similar to time management. Handling finances well will give one the sense of confidence when it is due time to spend. Use time
wisely and many goals will be achievable. Derrick seeks to provide one and all the sense of sureness in the handling of SSA's finances by displaying
consistency and working closely with fellow committee members.
I humbly seek to:
• Suggest and implement an improved accounting system (if necessary)
• Assist in the creation of the budget (if necessary)
• Display consistency in collecting/receiving cash.
• Be able to brief the committee about the financial standpoint of SSA at any time of the year.
• Create an Excel spreadsheet that is efficient and automatically updates the Profit and Loss Statement and Balance Sheet. This will serve as a check
and balance mechanism, and will save a lot of time come financial year end.

Levina Tedja
Hi hi! Levina here! I’m a third year student studying Commerce/Arts. My interests lie in international relations and politics. Honestly, I’m not
especially good in writing about myself, but I’m a pretty nice person and love to make friends. So hopefully, I’ll see you around!

Social Director
Tabitha Pang
Basically, to know more about me, just use food as the bait. (It must be good of course) I am experienced in organizing events back in Singapore and hope
that I would be able to use this skill for the benefit of my fellow Singaporeans (aka. YOU) in Sydney.
Knowledge talks, wisdom listens. Do give us your honest opinions (all comments will be taken into consideration) so that we (esp. me) can learn how to
organize activities that all of us would appreciate and thoroughly enjoy.

Sports Director
Reuben Chia
Hi my name is Reuben and I am the Sports Director.
I would like to say I am a very sporty person. But then again lazing around is also
another forte of mine. So if you do want to meet up to chill and drink I'm the one
to look for.
Other than that, I look forward to meeting you guys at whichever sporting event that the SSA organizes.

Sports Director
Lynette Ho
Hi I’m Lynette and am a 2nd year Biotechnology student. Being the female sports director, I hope everyone would be able to mingle and make new friends with
common interest and of course, not to forget to have lots of fun!
Remember sports are never just limited to physical sports. Hope to see you guys!
What I wish to achieve through the activities is for everyone to be able to meet Singaporeans not only from their faculty but to also have memorable times
with each other in their time away from home.

Daphne Loh
Hi all, I am currently in my second year doing my Bachelor of Commerce majoring Accounting and Finance. I understand that studying overseas can be lonely and
plain, therefore, my aim would be to forge students relations with SSA, know more about us and to be a part of us!
Hanging out with SSA members will make you enjoy our company, understand our culture. And lastly, for Singaporeans, SSA will not make you feel homesick! (:

Editor
Ernest Tan
Ernest Tan is a second year journalism major with the School of English, Media and Performing Arts. He is your typical word-buff with a twist of lemon and
takes particular pleasure in the restoration of abused and neglected prose. His loves, in no particular order, include books, booze, electronics (xbox360 be
mine), singing in the shower, Japanese food, a girl named Sophie (sorry ladies) and two beautiful baby cats who wait impatiently for him in Singapore. He is
honoured to be serving on the committee of the SSA: UNSW and hopes that his term as editor will bring about world peace. Thank you.
As SSA Editor 2010, I will, for the most part, be looking at ways of increasing awareness of the SSA: UNSW and its activities with an eye towards increasing
our membership numbers as well as fostering stronger ties between SSA members.
To this end, I will be experimenting with a number of new media technologies, most of which will involve making changes to the existing website/blog with the
aim of increasing its effectiveness in:
1) Reaching out to new and existing members
2) Distributing important information on SSA events in a timely and reliable manner to members
3) Promoting discussion/interaction between SSA members about SSA affairs
Not only do these goals hold obvious benefits for the SSA, they also align very well with the scope of my major (Journalism/Media & Comms) and will allow me
the valuable opportunity of gaining familiarity with existing new media technologies.

Lvl.1 Webmaster
Gabriel Ong
What's there to be said about me? =O I'm a jack of many trades, and finding new experiences is just one of many hobbies... after which many an account of
them would go to this little page on the web that they... hmm, what do they call it? OH YES! A blog! =X
...
As you can see I’m not the highest tech-IQ person around, but I’d try my best to fill the rather big shoes the previous webmaster left me. Hopefully by the
end of this year, we'd have a working forum to better connect the SG students in Sydney, it could serve as a medium to share news or experience of our home,
Singapore. Still, if there are any comments, suggestions or feedback you would like to give about the website, feel free to contact me about it! =)
I'm currently going into the 2nd year of my Engineering/Commerce DDP, and I’ve got a long time more to go at UNSW. If you got an unusual hobby and you're
looking for someone to join you with (Rubik's Cube, Chinese Orchestra... heck, even paintball or cosplay), why not just drop me a mail? Who knows... I just
might be your man =D Keep updated and hope to hear more from ya'all online! Just hopefully not when there's some SSA events happening, alrites? ;)

I am a second year commerce student majoring in finance and economics. I hail from the land of the merlion, Singapore, but I bet you already knew that! I
came to UNSW to pursue a commerce degree as I wanted to experience a different education system. Key to having this experience warranted an overseas
education. I chose UNSW as it had a solid commerce background (well in actuality I wanted to go to the US but my parents didn't allow that, said it was too
far. And before you ask.... yes I am a mama's boy >.<)
Well anyway I have been here for a year and a half and have enjoyed myself and discovered many interesting and varied facts. Like for example, do you know
that if you walk out down Forsyth Street late at night past Meeks Street you will see..... Well it’s best not to post that on the website. Anyway to round
things off I like going to go to the ktv to watch the mtvs (because my singing is really bad so I do not sing much), you can find me in the library most of
the time during the exam periods and if you have any problems please feel free to find me and we can discuss them if you like.
My goal is to help any Singaporean, in fact anyone, to have an easier time adapting to Sydney. And to help in any way that I can. Also, to make it a point to
help out in the SSA wherever I can whenever I can.

Fun and freedom is what you can expect whilst pursuing an education overseas and these are my two most important principles in life. A multitude of
experiences awaits those who have chosen to go abroad to study and trust me they are going to be life-changing.
As for what I do, I am currently doing my Bachelors of Commerce, majoring in Finance and Business economics. Finance and economics has always been a passion
of mine as these are areas where art and science is interwoven and the final result depends on ones interpretations of the facts present. I also have a
penchant for areas relating to controversy, politics and basically anything that allows me to indulge in a little bit of verbal jousting. I also enjoy a long
relaxing jog and a good book that is filled with rich descriptions.
During my stint at SSA, I hope to create an environment that fosters interactions amongst members and allow for friendships to be made. I also wish to create
a platform as well that allows members to seek out each other should they require any form of help.
Lastly, please give me a call/IM/drop me a mail if anyone wants to have a nice chat over a pint of beer. ‘Happy Hours’ have got ‘Happy’ in them for a reason
right.

After 3 whole years of bulldozing my way around uni with no social life whatsoever, I decided on a whim that I should change all that and get into as many
activities as I can in my final year. So here I am- a BA (Politics and International Relations) semi-student who’s pursuing honours (think 17k words thesis,
baby).
I don’t have any particular talents, unless you count inventing quirky words or speaking exclusive mandarin (only a select few understand) as such. I do have
pretty strong beliefs though- like no one should ever live without a microwave and that all cars should be hatchbacks- preferably in yellow.
I’m pretty approachable as long as you’re not a lizard lover, a collector of human skulls and toe nails, or... a lizard lover. Anyhow, I look forward to
bumping (since the bulldozing hasn’t changed) into you all in the coming year at our fabulous events and/or any other opportunity should Fate permit!
